Choosing the Perfect Stone

Choosing the right material for a memorial can seem difficult at first, but understanding the qualities of each stone helps make the decision easier.

Granite
Granite is extremely durable and stands up well to British weather. It is available in a wide range of colours including black, grey, blue, red and many others. It requires very little maintenance and is often approved by most cemeteries.

Marble
Marble has a timeless and classic appearance with natural veining. It is a softer stone, which means it may weather more quickly than granite. Marble is usually available in light tones.

Slate
Slate has a deep natural colour and a smooth fine texture. It has a traditional appearance that suits many older churchyards. Slate is excellent for hand cut lettering and creates a distinctive finish.

Cemetery Requirements
Every cemetery or churchyard has its own rules about which materials can be used. Some limit certain colours or polished finishes. We always check the rules for you to make sure your choice is fully approved.
